LENCOMARINE s.a.l. excels in the designing and manufacturing of High Performance boats in Lebanon, with exports meeting the toughest CE requirements of the European markets. An exclusive Interview with Camille Chamoun ,  The founder and manager of this specialty factory, to understand the insight of this facsinating industry.

1 –What does Lenco Marine stand for?

Simply the Lebanese Enterprise Corporation

2 – When was the company established and who are the owners?

It was founded back in 1976 under the name “ Lenco Plast” as a business by my father, Dory Chamoun and his associate Mr. Patrick Van der Elst. Following a decade of turmoil with unstable commercial success, the factory was shut down following the 1989 war after which I took over the business in 1992 and founded Lenco Marine s.a.l. to this present day.

3 – What got you involved in this field?

After  graduating in 1989 in England , I went and visited the Earl’s Court London Boat Show where I met a company called “ Tremlett Boats” that excelled in the design of high performance boats and I went to work  for them in their yard in Exmouth U K, and that was my first professional experience in the world of boat design and construction.

5 – How many units per year?

We are currently able to manufacture about 40 boats per year.

6 – Is this number still increasing?

We are currently seeking for a water front facility that would logistically enable us to produce larger size boats plus a full maintenance facility.

7 – We hear your major production relies on export?

70% off our production is for export under Guepard Yachts branding mainly to Europe and the Caribbean since all our actual models meet or exceed the “CE approval Standards”.

8 – What is your edge in these competitive markets?

All our boats are highly appreciated overseas for their seaworthiness quality and their value for money. Clients in Europe trust our products after having dealt with LENCOMARINE products for more than a decade which helped us in establishing a solid reputation as professional and  serious boat builders.

9 – Lenco Marine has won few rewards, tell us more about them?

Back in the early eighties our agent in France had participated in an offshore class 2 french championship and our boats arrived in 1st and 3rd position against very fierce competitors from top European boat manufacturers.

We also took victory in the late nineties during the St-Georges Race winning 3 out of the 5 boat Classes that were competing in this event.

Finally, we take great pride in considering ourselves as the contemporary High-Tech Phoenicians by perpetrating the tradition of our ancestors who excelled in designing and building their remarkable ships that sailed the world from our Mediterranean shore.
